BACKGROUND OVERVIEW OF AID2AFRICA DEVELOPMENTAL PROGRAMS
AID2AFRICA aspires to alleviate the plight of indigenes and nations in Africa universally classified as underdeveloped.
Africa, a continent endowed with immense natural and human resources as well as great cultural, ecological and economic diversity, remains underdeveloped. A good number of African nations suffer from military dictatorships, corruption, civil unrest, war, underdevelopment and deep poverty. Many of the countries classified by the UN as least developed are in Africa. Numerous developmental strategies have failed to yield the expected results. Despite the belief of some that the continent is doomed to perpetual poverty and economic slavery, Africa has immense potentials.
The need for immediate response and intervention cannot be overemphasized. Death resulting from lack of sufficient and adequate infrastructures, food shortages, poor and inadequate health care, conflict and political unrest, lack of access to good and affordable education for the youth, poor nutrition, increased maternal mortality due to lack of basic medical care and other preventable factors are most responsible for the blight of Africa and hinderance to its development.
AID2AFRICA strives to bring a more proactive and pragmatic solution to some of the problems that are most prevalent in Africa. The approach will be all-inclusive and extensive, will not undermine the rights and the good culture of the people of Africa, but utilize the available rich local, natural and human resources for her development.
AID2AFRICA focus areas include the following where we provide interventions and development for intentional growth and impact implementing projects that will best improve the living conditions of Africans:
Community/Welfare and Healthcare Development – Afromedica Initiative
Background - Overview
In the estimation of the World Health Organization, every minute a child dies from malaria in Africa. Nine out of 10 malaria deaths occur on the African continent, with 78 percent of deaths occurring in children under five. Despite a significant reduction in cases and deaths over the past decade as result of increased investment, intervention and awareness (malaria mortality rates have fallen by 54 percent in the region), malaria still remains one of the biggest killers, with more than 500,000 deaths in 2013 alone.
Other common killers of children under five include pneumonia and diarrhea, which also account for a large portion of childhood illnesses and deaths. Malnutrition often serves as a major contributing factor for poor health outcomes within the region. At current global child mortality rates, it is estimated that 17,000 young children die every day from hunger-related causes – with almost half of these deaths occurring in sub-Saharan Africa.
Children remain the highest number of victims who suffer from illness and most often forced out of school, damaging prospects as well as the economic health of the continent. The high disease burden also significantly contributes to high out of pocket health expenditures by households, many of which live on less than a dollar a day. Aid2Africa stands to provide lasting impact and positive influence in promoting healthcare delivery in the continent through its Afromedica initiative.
The Aid2Africa Program for community healthcare development covers the entire African continent, targeting rural communities that have no access to health care delivery and special interest in children and women who are mostly the affected population.
Project Outline and Objectives
To encourage a broad range of community-based projects in healthcare delivery:
Improve literacy rates among community health workers:
Low literacy among health workers in isolated areas adds to the recruitment and training burden. To tackle this, Aid2africa identifies and supports adult learning schemes that could help increase the literacy of targeted community health workers through enlightenment programs, literacy and awareness programs on preventive measures against sickness and illness.
§ Partner with relevant stakeholders in facilitating the delivery of community-based health interventions by frontline health workers at health facilities and at the community level in line with national policies and global best practices.
YOUTH ENTREPRENEUERIAL & SKILLS DEVELOPMENT
The project aims at embedding an entrepreneurial spirit amongst youths; transforming job seekers into job creators to increase employment opportunities; building capacities and enhancing youth employability skills; closing the gap between labor demand and supply and fostering a culture of entrepreneurship and private sector development.
WEWORK initiative of Aid2Africa exists to address a major challenge facing African youth unemployment. In addressing this challenge, WEWORK bridged the gap between the output of education systems and the labor market requirements. We shall work with other partners facing the same challenge to upscale creative ideas and initiatives.
The project’s approach tackles the problem of unemployment, both from the demand and the supply side, training youths to be ready for future work and to help them in starting their own businesses. The program operates under four main pillars - employment (training on building knowledge and practical skills); entrepreneurship (personal development and skill training); education (implementing and replicating creative ideas in all schools, primary, secondary and tertiary institutions); and engaging all our beneficiaries in internship programs, social work and community service activities all across the country while they create their own businesses and become financially independent.
The private sector will be fully involved in the implementation process, particularly in the training activities and mentoring. Government support and sponsorship where necessary is sought while providing the political will for the success of the program across the country.
